The Caftan 2010 pre-selection fashion show took place at the Villa des Arts in Casablanca.
Two young designers: Samira El Mhaidi Knouzi, and Abdelhanine Raouh have been selected to take part in the Caftan 2010 fashion show.
The garden of Casablanca's Villa des Arts played host last Thursday to the Caftan 2010 pre-selection fashion show.
True to form, "Femmes du Maroc" magazine is giving young talent the chance to express itself. Designers who have never taken part in a fashion show before, and who wish to participate as young talents in the annual "Caftan" event, must first pass a test.
This is the very purpose of the preselections that take place a month ahead of this fashion event. Caftan 2010 is no exception.
After being shortlisted on the basis of a dossier, eight young designers presented their collections on Thursday April 5 to a jury comprising Aicha Sakhri, publication director, Dominique Sirop, French designer, Moula Ratib, textile industrialist, Kenza Daoudi, General Manager of Cartier Maroc and Amina Agueznay, jewelry designer.
Among the many collections on display were those by Meriem Belkhayate, daughter of singer Abdelhadi Belkhayate, Ghizlaine Sahli, Ismaël Oulakdim and Fedoua Mellouk.
Each designer unveiled his or her creations under a predefined theme.
Corrida, Andalusia, under Cleopatra's spell, crystals - these are just some of the subjects that have inspired young fashion designers.
Crystal was exploited by at least three designers. It was the favorite theme of the designers, but not of the jury.
The members of the jury were seduced by the caftans of two young designers.
Andalusia by Samira El Mhaidi Knouzi and ancient Greece by Abdelhanine Raouh: these two worlds charmed the members of the Jury. "The collections of these two designers won over the jury thanks to the quality of their creations, with their seductive and original lines", they told the press.
Samira El Mhaidi Knouzi's "Hymn to Andalusia" collection pays tribute to colors: green and pink. Jackets, frock coats and skirts punctuate the superimpositions of materials. Laces, brocades and satins seem to conjugate with all tenses in the spirit of the theme.
Another equally magical world inspired the other big winner of the preselections. Abdelhanine Raouh loves ancient Greece, and he's not shy about letting it be known.
The caftans in her collection are inspired by the costumes of the period.
Empire waistlines, pleats, a play of cut-outs and mastery of volume, inlaid coins or aged jewels on corseted belts create an airy, streamlined look.
The two designers' choice of clean lines, devoid of color and kitschy cut-outs, won them over.
They have been selected and must now prepare for D-Day.
This event usually takes place at the Palais des Congrès in Marrakech.
But for practical reasons and due to overbooking in this city, the organizers decided to change course.
This year, the Caftan fashion show will take place in the capital of the Souss region: Agadir. "It's becoming increasingly difficult to find accommodation in Marrakech, so we were forced to change venue," Aicha Sakhri, publishing director of Femmes du Maroc, the event's initiator, told the press.
Another new feature, Caftan will be broadcast live on 2M.
This channel was the first to broadcast the event live, it was replaced by TVM and now it's back.
