Djellaba Women
Origin of the Moroccan Djellaba
Originally the Djellaba is a typically masculine dress, that women did not miss to appropriate in the 30s. And they did not do things by halves, because today it is the garment that is associated with the Moroccan woman.
But before continuing, I think it is important to look at the etymology of the word Djellaba, which let's face it, does not put everyone in agreement. For some, it refers to the "garment of the djellab" namely the slave trader, for others, it qualifies a draped garment ... the arguments hold. And believe me, the djellaba or "Jalaba" has not finished to make speak about it.
The djellaba in the Maghreb
Characteristic of the Maghreb, this garment is described as a long-sleeved tunic with a hood. The making is traditionally done by hand. After cutting, it is necessary to proceed to the sewing of the pieces by inserting the Sfifa and the Aakads. Without forgetting the famous Koubala, a kind of pompom, which comes to be fixed at the tip of the hood.
One could very easily characterize this dress of functional, and it for several reasons. First of all, the Moroccan djellaba is worn in a daily way, by acting as overcoat. Moreover, its hood can be used as pocket. We have all already seen, a grandmother sliding keys or I do not know what else 😉 .
A multi-purpose dress
It is also a garment that adapts to the seasons ... Hence the importance of the choice of fabrics for the manufacture of djellabas. Thus, for the winter models, we will opt for example for wool and the summer, it will be rather linen.
Its use has evolved, its primary function of overcoat is gradually fading, and this outfit takes on a whole new look. It is a modern Djellaba and in all its splendor that reveals itself, a unique garment, that we wear during unique occasions.
And there, they are very "festive", very sought after models that are displayed. For this, different elements come to delight the outfit. Exceptional embroidery, rhinestones and pearls, golden or silver Sfifa ... everything is allowed ...
Djellaba modern and trendy woman...
Designers have no shortage of ideas, or means to sublimate this outfit. Basically, it is a real fashion garment, which obeys trends: short, long, half sleeves, prints ... the models are endless.
There are even 2 pieces, which are in fact a Djellaba set and its matching Caftan or Kamiss. Decidedly, it is ready to do anything to get noticed. In any case, the woman djellaba lends itself to all occasions... To you to choose, the model which will suit you best.
